I quite prefer this design from a contest in 2003. The left one. I like how it’s not actually usable, jsut a constant reminder of what was lost. And I like the idea on the second of a place that only has darkness on the anniversary of the attacks. I feel like the freedom tower now is just somehow TOO modern, and of course we recognise its ties to 9/11 as Americans but it holds none of the original architectural elements as the original towers, besides the spire. Maybe if there was two of them.

I’ve been there. It’s beautiful actually

Personally I think they should have kept the whole area empty. we don’t need another lookout spot in nyc. America needs a trade Center, sure, but we needed to weigh the idea of that symbol vs the need to show what changed and what we lost

It’s a museum and reflection pool and memorial space too

Oh I’m going soon and I’m very excited! I just am not a fan of the twist of the tower vs the blocky 70’s architecture of the original wtc

This feels disrespectful to the victims

Yes. I’m saying that they should have made the tower into many mid rise buildings, with the museum and memorial space, but leaving the skyline blank, or creating a type of latticework sculpture resembling the original

Ok no one gaf the freedom tower is ugly and there was much better designs and America as a whole focuses too much on 9/11 and not on the way it made people feel like they were allowed to be racist to and hate Muslim people and see them as terrorists in a way that is still very evident today

So when you go there you’ll find out that’s just not true and of course a 9/11 museum is gonna focus on 9/11

I hate that this is my take so much but I think with the freedom tower plan the mall is okay. The freedom tower is meant to be a replacement to the twin towers as a business Center, and the mall makes sense as a replacement to the wtc mall. (Original mall as reference)

Genuinly I just feel like it’s not as imposing as the twin towers were. I feel like the freedom tower is trying to bring back a sense of normalcy to the area, and not replacing fully but standing in place of the twin towers? It just dosent hit the same to me

Like perhaps it’s nostalgia for a time that’s seen as simpler, or just missing what was lost, but I just feel like the freedom tower isn’t as imposing and recognisable.
