do you identify as a transman? or you just mean that the surgeries youre pursuing are more in line with the typical transition of a trans masculine person.

just a heads up having a space between “trans” and “man” is the preferred term to be more person-centered

interesting im nonbinary and prefer "nonbinary" over "non-binary" because it being one word makes it blend in more with natural language, writing "transman" and "transwoman" feel the same to me.

in no way is that the same. trans is an adjective and man/woman is a noun.

its a very new word in the scheme of english. i wouldnt be surprised if the combined word becomes more popular because people are lazy and language naturally moves down the path of least resistance

The reason why transman and transwoman are problematic terms is because they were created by TERFS to create new categories of people. Instead of men and women who can be cis or trans, TERFs believe that there are men and women and transmen and transwomen. ‘Man’ is used to designate a cisgender man, and ‘transman’ is used to designate someone with a vagina who identifies as a man but, in the TERFs’ minds, is actually just masquerading and/or mentally ill

But! I don’t identify as a trans man. Ftm just means female-to-male, which describes me. For gender, I just identify as nonbinary but I often oscillate between transmasc and feminine-leaning (though I doubt I’ll ever be able to fully divorce myself from womanhood)

I think you explained this very well, thanks OP. I don’t think #3 meant any harm and just didn’t fully understand/know the history and was met with a bit of aggression rather than education, but the way you responded was put really well so it’s appreciated. I actually wasn’t aware of this either so I’m glad you decided to explain it in a kind way 😊
