I knew it. The second they said they wanted more mental health checks (which is good) but didn’t create specific bills they’d start abusing it and taking away rights of queer and trans people. Oh you’re gay and were depressed once in highschool? Yeah no more guns. Gender dysphoric? None for you either. Told your school counselor you felt anxious? GONE. I knew from the start without very specific legislature regarding mental health related disqualifications and judge approval we’d get here QUICK
i knew this was gonna happen. in my first semester of college we had a debate on gun control. someone said that people who are mentally ill should have restricted access and i brought up the fact that if such a thing isn’t made specific it could be used in harmful ways like targeting trans people and i got called woke by some cadet. i was right after all
People said I was crazy and “hated kids” and even a Nazi sympathizer bc I always advocate for specific and targeted legislation every time someone says generalized “mental health checks” after a mass shooting is the highest priority. No! This is exactly why! This is what happens when we’re reactionary. We turn genuine good government decisions into twisted monkeys paw bullshit. My armory will be stocked full (until I lose them all in a boat accident, ofc)
Reactionaries get real mad when you tell them the solution to the prevalence of school shootings isn’t to pass large generalized swaths of legislation under the guise of gun control. It takes time, and careful consideration of verbiage and implications. Avoiding harm and whatnot. But anything other than calling for immediate unchecked law changes is apparently Republican thinking, and ofc every single person who even possibly sounds like they agree with anything a Republican says is a Nazi, ofc.
The word doesn’t fit the rest of the sentence though, like “ban firearms for people who are gender disphoric” makes sense but that's not what they put is it. They put ban firearms for gender disphoric. My apologies for having standards for sources. I'll be more like maga and believe any headline I see in the future
No, it’s grammatically correct, I promise you. It’s the same idea as someone saying “this is for the elderly” for example. “Gender dysphoric” is being used as an adverb to describe a group of people in the context of the headline I posted. That group being people with gender dysphoria
