Even within the south, every place is different, there’s no easy way to tell how safe different things would be. General solidarity is the main thing, and sticking up for him if your parents do something transphobic. Otherwise, he is the best resource on how he wants to be supported, ask him. Definitely ask who he’s come out to already, and don’t out him to anyone yourself, let him do that when he’s ready.

Best thing I can say is if there’s any way for him to get out (understanding relatives out of state, college, anything) that’s the way to go. If he decides to be out at school, you must support him unconditionally. Much love, it gets better <3

Oh, I didn’t realize that. I don’t know how to be as supportive as he needs when I’m terrified someone will hurt him, I know I haven’t been the best in the past but I’m trying to be better.
