yeah it’s not really Needed, but people can and should label themselves however they want. it’s harmless

i've always heard it as bi has gender or genital based preferences whereas for pan ppl, gender and genitals have zero impact on the attraction

fair enough. every pan person i've met (irl or otherwise) has described their attraction as being to "the person, not their gender" and even bi person i've met (irl, online, and self) has had a gender, genital, or gender presentation preference of some sort
