one of two ways. i'm asked to do everything and given carte blanche to run meetings, the space, and events. or 2 i just sit there on my phone for 240 hours a semester. this position is unpaid and an hour a way, but could be a really cool way to connect with the community and get internship hours [2]
I'm also interviewing for a paid position closer to home working with my local center. so like should i take a chance and go for it? or wait and see my options? i kind of think that the lack of any concrete plan for getting the place up off the ground was a bit of a red flag [3]
Yeah, thatโs definitely a big leap not knowing the outcome. Iโd say it may be good if you need the hours and couldnโt earn them from the paid position, but if you can get them from the paid position Iโd do that. I volunteer at a queer youth Center thatโs run very well and itโs still a LOT even though Iโm only working the boutique. If you need the hours and can only get them there, Iโd do that, but make sure the person in charge knows you want to help. Because I find that most of the time that
People end up on there phones for hours is because theyโre not being given work, and sometimes the person in charge needs a push to know you WANT to work vs studying or being online. Many college work positions are supposed to be easy, and let you study at work sometimes, so they may have that preconceived idea of college vouleteers
yeah i'm probably going to check out one of the events that they do have so that i can talk with the operator and just see what's up with the place and if we can solidify a more specific role. but if i get the paid position then i think i might go with that instead. it seems like the youth center is a gambleโwhich i'm not adverse to. it's just i'd want to be more sure on what i'd be doing
I think you have a choice to make between two very good opportunities, one that is volatile but could be a good opportunity to make a big change, and another that is going to be comfortable and better structured. I think you need to weigh the options, but also think about wether youโll be able to truly do as much as you want at the youth Center as a college student, or wether thatโs something to take on when you only have a job, not schoolwork AND a job, or if thereโs other ways to help out.
no worries just thought iโd mention it since i cant see her comments (only person i have blocked rn) and ik that you got recently banned after getting into it with her. didnโt want you to be accidentally interacting with her if that wasnโt something you were comfortable with.
