If you’re considering leaving your home state for a blue city or state, you should do it. You’ll be much better off, especially if you’re trans. I feel like I’m thriving for the first time in my life.

And if you’re trans there are resources to help you relocate from red states to shield states that I can link

I’m debating leaving my home state (swing) for my college state (blue) permanently, my family has been in my home state for generations and all my family, friends, and doctors are here. But I’m scared we’ll swing the wrong way

You’re very correct. However, my health insurance barely covers anything in my new state (MN, so not the safest blue state rn) and all my doctors (~8) are here. It sucks that everyone but white cis het-passing people need to be scared for their *lives* right now. I applaud you for taking that leap and moving away, it can be a hard decision.

If you already know the answer then you’re not really debating

…I don’t know the answer? There are dozens of pros and cons for each state, some are major, some are just quality of life things

Home state WI > possible new state MN

WI is NOT bad compared to red states, I know that. Rural areas are worse than where I live. But the laws don’t help/protect me as well as MN and there’s still 2 years left of Trump (if he lasts)

Why do you have to move permanently? Why can’t you move for a few years and if things improve in your home state move back? I’d move to where laws protect you, and if you’re moving to your college town you’re at least somewhat comfortable. I’m not sure how to help on the insurance aspect though.

You make a good point with that. The logistics would need to be worked out with things like, as you mentioned, insurance. I’ll keep this option in mind. I just always wanted to either move to a state and then stay there long-term (like years/decades), or stay in WI, so my thought process was stay or go.
