Lowkey hate when parents of trans people make it all about themselves. Like they’re so sad when a kid wants a different name and they act like it’s a crime against them for their kid to not be exactly who the parent assumed they’d become

because those parents view their child as an extension of themselves.

“But think about how I feel! I’m mourning my child!” Go fuck yourself with that. No, you’re not. You’re upset YOUR desires were not met and that you don’t have a little puppet.

I can understand why my parents are sad that I’m leaving behind the name they chose for me, and have known me by for the past 23 years. I can understand it, and at the same time, it’s really painful knowing I’ve made them sad by living as my real self.

My deadname meant something to my mom because of my birth, and while I understand that’s sad I changed it, I was the one who did that, not the name. Mourning my name, you care more about my meaning as a baby than my meaning as an adult

they gave you a gift when you were a baby, when you couldn’t say you didn’t want it. as a parent, I’d only be sad that I misjudged you and gave you a name you didn’t like rather than take it as a sign of my failure
