Some people view being a minority as inherently political. An LGBTQ+ character in a movie is political to them, but every single movie in existence has straight people and it’s not political. A black person earning a job is political to them, because it automatically means DEI, but they never question an unqualified white man. So on and so forth. I think (hope?) you get the picture.
In the political science realm, everything is regarded as political and that that is a fact of reality. And white straight men are to many the depoliticized norm because framing everything not white straight and male as political reinforces the stigmatization, marginalization and subjugation of all other groups. And framing things that way is a tool to shut down discussion and even recognition of any lived reality other than white straight men.
