also fun fact, look it up and there is absolutely NO legal requirement to lower pride flags because, crazy concept, THEY ARENT THE AMERICAN FLAG and they ARENT ON A POLE WITH THE AMERICAN FLAG. There is absolutely NO reason for this to be happening legally, so all yall who are saying “it’s just the law”, do a two second google search and then shut up.
okay but why tf r they putting pride flags down for him…the order is for american flags, so pride flags aren’t a part of that and even if they were why tf should anyone have to listen to that dumbass order? he was a fucking asshole w a podcast, meanwhile an actual senator was shot and killed and where was this for her?
There are points where he would tell the crowd to settle down when a person of our community would go up to speak. His truth is different than ours and he said he wasn’t going to lie to us about his faith. His faith has two genders and cis, so he would rather be respectful to us and our beliefs but also respectful to him and his beliefs
So don’t say this is “unheard of”, it just happened to someone who was favored by the party in the majority and so that’s why people are going crazy. Just because something isn’t talked about constantly and isn’t always on the news, doesn’t mean it’s not happening, and news coverage doesn’t make something rare. Car crashes happen all the time, most aren’t on the news, does that make them unheard of or rare?
There are facts regardless of any of our opinions. His following helped sway the youth vote heavily, was being seen worldwide, because the pendulum always swings this was likely a future President. Again, an asshole at times, but killed for differing views and that just cannot be a thing. Ever.
I didn’t say in any of my points that it’s the right thing to do or that it should be done. I just said it’s not a rare occurrence or anything crazy. This shit is not new. I never said it was okay, but neither are all the kids getting shot in school. He said that was a necessary sacrifice, and that makes him evil and terrible. I just feel bad for his wife and kids, but him? I don’t. Again not saying killing people is okay, but I sure as hell ain’t missing him.
Back to the OP: See, I’m lost at the level of surprise with the half-mast but not the assassination in the middle of a college campus where theoretically debate must be encouraged? The current President is a personal friend (gross in ways but facts) and has the power to enact half-mast. Also, anyone having issues with places lowering flags in general, why do we feel the need for others to think the same way we do? Isn’t autonomous thinking the biggest freedom there is?
Ha you’re funny if you think free speech still exists first off, and second um that order again as I said is for AMERICAN flags. it says jack shit about pride flags. And we are surprised because why on EARTH would someone want to lower PRIDE flags for a man that genuinely wanted us to be stoned and make our marriage illegal/criminalized. That’s what they are surprised by. also yeah no we’re not surprised by someone being shot in a college campus?! The virginia tech shooting?! Utah?! Columbine?!
Okay. This is going to become a circular conversation and I have no interest. Stoned and illegal? Don’t gaslight us with that. Watched that content in full (like to see both sides). He had religious convictions, some views that could be perceived as hateful of which I heavily disagree with, but also believed live and let live with adults at the end of the day. Words are not actions, we can agree on that I assume?
You’re literally crazy dude. He has in fact said that being gay should be criminalized and people he agrees with/people that follow him that he endorses, have said that homosexuality should be criminalized and we should go back to how we treated them in the 60s and 70s. You genuinely don’t know what you’re talking about but you tell me, a fucking LESBIAN, how he viewed the gays? literally what…?! like being religious and being a hate spewing bigot who advocates for violence and hatred are two
“live and let” is EXACTLY what he WOULDNT do. He wouldn’t just “let the gays live”, he felt the need to fight against our rights to marriage, adopt children, fucking exist, but we’re supposed to just be cool when he and his followers tell us our existence should be criminalized? uh no…the “live and let live” argument becomes null and void when he won’t let US live and be ourselves. If you want respect, show it, and last I checked, he did none of that to our community, so I have 0 respect for him
or ANYONE that agreed with him. didn’t say I agree he should have been shot, but I simply only feel empathy for his family as NO child should witness gun violence PERIOD. But he also thought that it was a necessary sacrifice, so he advocated for the very means that killed him. No sympathy for him, but I still don’t condone ANY gun violence. I just refuse to be sympathetic to an individual who hated me simply for existing and viewed me as beneath him or unnatural. Also like I said, history is a
History. That we can agree on. Social rights are given and taken away like clock work throughout World history. Humans are shitty. That’s a reality that’s almost unpreventable, but one that would be important to fight legally and legislatively when possible. We have real shit like that to worry about but are going to freak out about flags and subsequently one person’s words?
I’m not freaking out about the flag, I just find it funny people (like you) are getting so worked up about people being (rightfully so) upset about them lowering OUR flags for a man that HATED our community. Also it is literally not even legally required as pride flags are not national or governmental flags, and are therefore not governed by the United States Flag Code. So we are more pissed off about the fact that it’s unnecessary respect and honor shown to a man that HATED us, when we never
Okay I apologize he did not say stoning gays or criminalizing, but he did agree with/endorse others who said that, aka Pete Hegseth who reposted a video saying all of the things I just mentioned. They run in the same circles, and you are correct, he technically didn’t say that, but it’s not outside of the realm of things he wanted/didn’t stop people from advocating for/agreed with people advocating for.
