ok like yea this is bad but the way this insta post frames it is really fear-mongering. they would not be banning gay marriage, they would be overturning obergefell v hodges. the implications are very different than “banning gay marriage”. Gay marriage is legalized in many states, and federal law since 2022 has said that all states must recognize a legal marriage performed in another state, a law passed specifically to protect gay marriage. It’s bad but its not a ban.

if they overturn it, they’ll go after that law too. i thought we learned when they overturned roe v wade that they will go after everything that’s related.

ok but its bad reporting to act like that’s happening now. and the supreme court cant overturn any laws, that’s up to congress. A misinformed populace is going to be less effective at opposing these things because they’re not even gonna know what fight they’re fighting.

another technicality i just processed is theyre not even deciding the result of the case on nov 7, theyre deciding whether or not to hear the case at all. and if u know anything abt this whole situation u kno that its the weakest possible challenge someone could make to Obergefell and the supreme court shouldnt even give it the time of day. the way it’s stacked with biased ideologues instead of justices rn means the risk is there. but if they do hear the case we wont kno the result til next year
