I used to think every cis person was just kind of apathetic towards their given pronouns/ gender identity, am I just agender?

up to you! i know a couple people who identify as “cis by default”, so like, they don’t feel a strong “connection” to their gender but they don’t have any desire to transition. i also know people who don’t feel any connection/a strong connection to their gender and identify as agender/demigirl/demiboy and do want to transition. often people describe man-nonbinary-woman as a spectrum and it might be helpful to think of how “much” gender one feels as a spectrum too.

May I introduce you to the concept of apagender, which is literally what you’re describing. It’s the concept of one being apathetic towards their gender/gender identity

Yeah, I resonate with the “cis by default”. I’ve never felt particularly connected with my gender in any context other than the social one. My perceived gender affects how people address/ interact with me, so I feel connected in that sense, but not by some intrinsic, internal feeling. I kind of thought that was how everyone felt until I started talking to my trans friends about their experiences. Maybe I’ll start experimenting a little, I’m not sure exactly where I fall. Either way, tysm!

REGARDLESS, thank you! I’m pretty sure I’ve literally said the words “I’m kind of apathetic towards my gender”, I didn’t know there was a specific label for that!
