They’re public government employees so this is normal. Please don’t use that information to do anything creepy though

I’m saying that they shouldn’t really have it open so everyone can hear all your private information like address ssn and phone number and i didn’t plan on doing anything with that information. It’s normal to discuss that information with a employee but it’s not normal for a business to not have a place to share sensitive information

They’re PUBLIC employees, not a business. They work for the government. The government SHOULD be transparent and provide all the information, but part of this includes government employees (like the DMV) having these things public.

Like they should make more of an effort to at least have dividers or something so you get some privacy.

I’m saying a person renewing his license should not have all of his private information broadcasted across the dmv

The private citizens have a right to privacy and that the government building that created things like FERPA and HIPAA should also try to protect people’s privacy.

They’re literally NOT private citizens though. They work for the government. They are PUBLIC employees. And they know as government employees that their information will be public.

No the people who have to go to the dmv to renew their licenses are not employees of the dmv

I’m not talking about the employees like i already told you I’m talking about the private citizens or the clients

Ohh that’s what you meant. Well a DMV is still a public place so there’s very little expectation of privacy there. Your name is not some super secret info, it’s public, legally and socially speaking. If she was screaming people’s SSNs very loud? That’s different and should be reported

Yep which why i thought it was a little odd but you decided I was talking about the employees even after I told you I was talking about the private citizens

And once again it’s a government building the same government that has created privacy laws we aren’t in a public park we are in a building they could put walls up or doors on the waiting room or try to be discreet with private information there’s lots they can do. Schools are public buildings and they have to follow FERPA

Also in what instance would I be able to find a random government employees name address and ssn? They got that posted on the dmv website?

they only got your name, number, position, and work email not your home address and ssn on the website. Please try understanding people before you jump to conclusions

They’re invading me they are literally forcing me into a room where peoples and eventually my information is being broadcasted and shared with anyone who happened to be at the dmv

Dude you listened in on someone’s conversation hoping to get their private information, and then blamed the dmv for “letting” you do that

No I was at the dmv and it’s in a small ass town and I think the lady had hearing issues legit you could hear her from outside and I’m not sitting thinking oh boy I hope I get this guys information like if I want to I could have just talked to him during the hour we were sitting in the waiting room next to each other

I think buildings that regularly handle sensitive information should be set up in a way that limits how much others can hear. Like imagine if your doctor was just yelling out your medical history in the waiting room.

The solution could have been as easy as putting doors on in the waiting room and then announcing via intercom or tv what number is being served so you know when to go up.

Like I’m sitting in the living room and can clearly hear every word being said tell me how it’s my fault
