Same thing with torties!!! I work at a vet hospital and have gotten to monitor anesthesia for a tortie orchiectomy!!!

close but not quite. because the orange gene is carried on the x chromosome, a female cat needs 2 orange x chromosomes to be fully orange or else it is “masked” by another x. a male only needs one orange x chromosome, because the y chromosome does not mask it.

this is not what this post is about— you’re talking about fully orange cats and OP is talking about calicos. male calicos have 3 sex chromosomes, XXY. that’s why they’re intersex.

No it was so cool! And I have a bit of a rapport with the owner so when we were discharging I was like “surprise your kitty is intersex!!!” And I’m a bit of a genetics geek and mom was geeking along with me too :) nature is so cool!!!
