I wish I’d been less wishy washy about it. It’s hella scary, but it’s better in the long run to advocate for yourself (as long as it’s safe). I didn’t do that and still get consistently misgendered by the people who know me, because I never outright said “I’m a man, please refer to me as such”. All I did was change my name and pronouns, but people will find every excuse they can to not respect that.

If your parents don’t seem to understand your identity or reason for transition, make sure to explain it as many times as it takes. The biggest thing that led my parents to supporting me was just talking to them about it a lot and being very open
