People are also saying Missouri especially deserves it for re-electing Hawley???? Saying a state deserved a natural disaster, dozens of deaths, its power and networks out, and over a billion in projected reconstruction costs because we voted for a dickwad, in a state where dems haven’t had influence or really given a shit on the senate level since Claire McCaskill, is actually evil and makes you a horrible person.
the hurricane hit us so bad, even 8 months later there are areas that are still completely wrecked it's so detestable they can say things like that when people died, their homes were destroyed, and a lot of people I know got their finances ruined bc they lost their jobs one of my coworkers was telling me about her 8 year old kid and that multiple of his classmates passed due to helene fuck anyone who belittles our tragedies
it’s just a complete lack of empathy for people who have different views than them. it’s fine to not like each other because you don’t agree, conflict is absolutely expected there, but it’s crazy shit to wish death or trauma on people because you don’t agree with them. but people are so ready to do so that the moment they see someone who *might* have different political opinions because of where they’re from, they just see red and can’t control themselves. it happens both ways fs
It’s also wild because I’m in Massachusetts. I’m a blue state queer but I feel like I’m one of few who actually have empathy and a brain. Like they all say “queer people are everywhere” and then say people must be homophobic because they’re from Tennessee or something. Like no. We are EVERYWHERE
Exactly. It really is heartbreaking - the whole point of left-leaning politics is about caring for everyone?! I do worry that framing this as a matter of “different political opinions” sanitizes what many conservatives actually believe - that people like us don’t deserve basic rights. That said, I also couldn’t imagine the wanting to harm on people, even those who hold hateful views. The ones in my life, I’d much rather hope they grow and change!
i just phrased it that way in the context of this post. people seem to think that all people from the south or otherwise red states hold those values of believing we do not deserve rights, but they don’t know that. just as many people feel that people from the west coast or blue states are all super tatted and pierced hippie weirdos that like killing babies, but they don’t know that. it’s not sanitizing, it’s oversimplifying in the same way that the people i’m talking about do.
Oh wow, you responded so quickly - thank you for taking the time to expand and explain things for me! 🫶 Sadly, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that a significant portion of MAGA conservatives hold pretty extreme views. I definitely see where you’re coming from! But the worry I have with “both sides” rhetoric is that it treats “I don’t think certain groups should have the same rights as me” and “I just want equal rights” as equally bad or extreme. I hope I’m making sense - I’m sleepy. 🥲
I’ll be so fr like I don’t care if someone wants me dead, I’m not going to celebrate when the place they live gets destroyed, because not only is that the place they live, but where many others live. Like idk. I hate Nancy Mace (the woman who keeps saying the t slur in the senate) and if something bad happened TO HER I may smirk a little, but the place she lives (south Carolina) being devistated by a hurricane hurts many, who I don’t know, and who may be more like me than unlike me
