I have noticed queer spaces especially are super pro poppers and whippets and Iโm not really sure where that came from. One of my amazing gay friends was doing them and Iโm like dude, you know thatโs made people go BLIND. Itโs not some fun little party thing it can really fuck you up and he was astonished not a single person told him while they were going so hard
Yeah i was honestly really grossed out when I found out everyone was just huffing nail polish remover ๐ i really wish I knew what I was getting myself into before i held it up to my nose lmao. Obviously its my bad for not looking into it more but i blame everyone acting like its just some silly thing that everyone does. Obviously once i realized i was just killing braincells i stopped but like wtf ๐ญ
I think a lot of it is queer club culture from the 70s/80s hanging on, bc the queer community really holds onto our history in clubs and underground communities and tend to not like to change it due to historical significance of a lot of the behaviors, while straight/mainstream clubbing changes with the times as a way to differentiate themselves especially from their parents. No one wants to party like their parents did in hs while all the queers party like the old folks who fought for us
Yes i can see that. It's kind of cool keeping the culture alive but i also feel weird about it at the same time. Although since I'm so new to this space i don't think i can really have a say on it (or want to have a say on it) anyway haha. I guess this was just a big learning moment
