As someone studying child psychology and linguistics, I’ve become increasingly aware of how much society underestimates the comprehension skills of kids. They are able to pick up and understand a lot more than we assume and this is a great example of that!

I almost always talk to children as an equal (except certain/obvious scenarios) and it’s so easy. It’s not hard to treat them with respect and care about their emotions and pains. People wonder why I don’t struggle to babysit. It’s because I’m not an asshole, I’m just the adult making sure they don’t get a table edge through the forehead lol
