hi! ally here lol. i keep hearing the term “doll” thrown around. i’m pretty sure im correct in thinking this means any trans woman (pls correct me if im wrong). i was wondering, is this word ok for me to use for trans women? thank you!

I don’t think that “doll” is completely the same as saying “trans women”… you can still say it but it’s more of an in group/ slang thing. I def wouldn’t say it in any sort of serious convo abt trans ppl/ trans rights specifically lol. But it’s not a slur or anything haha

It's my understanding that it's from drag - "protect the dolls" being used to speak on protecting drag queens, but I've heard it used for anyone who identifies with the femme label, be it a trans woman, nb person, drag queen, or femme womab

Dolls has always meant trans women. Drag queens have since used it. same way queens use alot of language surrounding trans women. But it’s currently widely understood as a term for trans women.
