Alright, I’ll be that guy: Biological sex is also made up. There, I said it. It’s a collection of characteristics that we pretend are mutually exclusive and binary, but they aren’t. Some cis women have XY chromosomes, for example. And of course, intersex people are real, and more common than you’d expect.

also I’m ngl your average trans layman is more likely than our cis counterparts to have an understanding of sex which reflects the complexities of real-world human biology rather than the oversimplified version taught to children (i.e. it’s not strictly defined by genitals, chromosomes vary more than one might think, intersex people exist etc)

Especially annoying when people try demanding that men be all tough and lead others whereas women submit themselves and remain a housewife. Like, refusing to acknowledge one’s identity is one thing, but forcing others to act a way they don’t want to? Both are bad, but both combined are just the worst.

not to mention the word “transsexual” was coined to refer to the fact that, since sex is defined based on a range of different factors, it *is* possible to “change sexes” from the one you were assigned at birth if you self-describe your sex as “male” then no judgment obviously, but there are trans women who self-describe as female too, and that’s every bit as reasonable

Hi, I’ll be the devils advocate (as a trans man)- Biological sex is a real thing, it simply means what you were assigned at birth. intersex people are the exception to having a different biological sex and they make up 1-2% of the population Other than that, roughly 98% of the population still would still have a biological sex of either XX or XY

Hormones can replace the dominant hormones already in your body and change secondary sex characteristics but it cannot change the chromosomes you were born with (I promise I’m not being transphobic. I’m a trans man and I went to med school, all trans ppl are valid but I do think it’s important to know what is and isn’t true)

Sex is expressed through several components. By changing your secondary sex characteristics through hormone replacement you are changing your sex.

If you had to be assigned it (in this case at birth), then it’s not a “real” thing per se—it’s a construct.
