and now that their little experiment is over and they know that they can use dead women as incubators, she’s gonna be disconnected from life support and tossed aside and forgotten about by the state.

absolutely crazy. if the baby survives like that’s so traumatic. like how would you even communicate that to a child?? you should’ve have to, because brain dead women should not be fucking incubators!! like i feel for her and her family so much, what a traumatizing and tragic situation all around

last year doctors and scientists were talking about keeping brain dead women NO MATTER THE AGE as long as they could get pregnant and use them as INCUBATORS because of the “population declining and birth rates dropping” THEY WANT TO KEEP DEAD WOMEN HOOKED UP AND RAPE THEIR DEAD BODIES TO THEN HARVEST THE BABY 🤢 they even talked about doing that with this poor women, who wanted to rest in peace and her family doesn’t want that to happen or for the baby to be forced out of her

How many weeks even was this kid? Certainly not full term? Did they have to deliver early because of Adriana’s condition or because of the (sounds like) severe hydrocephalus? Was it even to 26 weeks? This sounds absolutely horrific

Smith has been on life support for almost four months after suffering a medical emergency linked to blood clots in her brain. Georgia’s abortion law, bans most abortions after cardiac activity is detected, around six weeks into pregnancy.

And the baby’s chances of even surviving are slim to none. He was born at just over a pound and has several defects. I hate to say it but that poor mother is most likely going to have to bury not only her child but her grandchild as well. This is barbaric.

Is there more of a backstory to this? As terrible as this story sounds I can see a dying mother wanting to be survived by her child, did she have any sort of directives in place in case this happened or last wishes? Hopefully the kid is okay despite all the potential complications.

The office of Georgia’s attorney general, Chris Carr, released a statement saying that Georgia’s ban does not require medical professionals to keep women alive on life support after being declared brain dead.

Thing is the baby’s chances aren’t high. Supposedly he has fluid on the brain and others are saying that he’s completely brain dead. In other words: this was not successful at all making it even worse for the family

her name is adriana smith if you want to read her story. she developed blood clots in her brain and is brain dead. her family did not want the hospital to keep her on life support, the only reason they did is because the fetus had cardiac activity. she’s been on life support since february.

She went to the hospital for treatment when she started feeling sick, they told her she was like 6 weeks or something pregnant and denied her care for fear it would harm the baby. She died the next week. She told them multiple times she did not want the baby and to save her but abortion is illegal where she lives so no one helped her. The court overruled the husband and family’s wishes to turn off life support because that would be “an abortion”.

I also want to emphasize she was a black woman. When this story first broke I didn’t see anyone mention her race and when I saw a picture of her for the first time it all made sense. They’ve always treated women like shit black women even worse. They knew they could get away with it.

She passed away in February. Fetus was about 7 weeks at that time so even then the fetus wouldn’t be at term where survival could happen

the lack of autonomy and respect women, especially black women, receive in healthcare is disgusting. she’s fucking brain dead because the hospital she went to for her severe headaches blew her off and didn’t help her before the blood clots killed her.

even worse is they knew the child would be born with severe health complications if it even made it to birth at all. they knew the child is more than likely to die before it grows up anyway, they just didn’t give a fuck about the wellbeing of the fetus and just decided to use her as an experiment. all in the name of their pro-life laws. it’s sick.

You shouldn’t need a directive in place for a hospital to know to not use your dead body as an incubator. That should not be the default

I *have* died before (they got me back and I recovered obv) and I still can’t imagine what her family is going through. The only person there to make decisions for me was my long term partner and I would haunt someone if they disrespected his/my wishes like that. It’s so vulnerable to literally be dead and they completely desecrated her.

What sickens me to my fucking stomach is that this doesn’t make others sick to their stomach, or at the very least make them feel an ounce of disgust. They see women as nothing but a host for life rather a human being. The baby has to live knowing they were incubated within the husk of a human being. Shame on the people who pushed these policies, they don’t deserve the right to reproduce knowing they’d rather see their baby born rather than the mother healthy.

Honestly the baby probably won’t live. It was 1 pound with severe birth defects. And if it does, I highly doubt it’ll be able to grasp the severity of what happened. But Adriana’s already alive son will definitely have to live with this forever. That his mom died either for nothing or for his new sibling that he’ll never be able to love. Adriana’s husband will. Do they expect him to raise and care for this baby if it lives? Adriana’s family?

Exactly this!! Experimenting on a Black woman’s corpse is fucked enough on its own. Leaving her family with insurmountable medical debts and another likely burial after having to cut her open because she’s decaying and can’t incubate any longer is beyond cruel. It’s abhorrent. It’s desecration of a corpse and Adriana deserved so much better.
