Religious discourse is back, so just be aware: People aren’t in religions because they were convinced by evidence, but because it makes them feel better and/or offers them a sense of community. It is pointless to try to convert or deconvert people

Instead, fight them on the grounds that their religion only dictates their life, and not anyone else’s.

i feel like both reasons are true. some were convinced while others found comfort in it.

My religious grandad really needs to comprehend this gem. I am not apostate because I learned to much science, I’m apostate because I was only presented with a version of Christianity that leaves no room for queer people and only slightly more room for women

True but I don’t think there’s necessarily harm in acknowledging that the same faith that puts a wedge between them and their community is the exact same that they use to cling to religion just the opposite direction

Don’t take this the wrong way, but there’s no overlap in the Venn diagram of “people who are willing to be convinced on this topic” and “people who will accept the shoddy evidence of the pro-religious argument as authoritative”

people can absolutely become religious by being convinced by whatever “evidence” they’re presented with. especially if that interaction comes at a vulnerable time in their lives. i’m not sure what you think i meant by me saying some were convinced.

Sorry, I meant to say “convinced by evidence,” as I said in the original post, not just “convinced”
