Ok detrans person posting about summer reading being the first hp books is rage bait. But it’s so funny to post like “owning the libs” and it’s you saying you have a 6th grade reading level

The first one isn’t even that good, compared to the others. Like, yeah, I get that they go in order of reading complexity by the year Harry was in, and that the earlier ones are neat and needed for the others, but like, the world building mostly happens in 2, 4, and 5. 1 is almost pointless, 3 is more of a B plot, 6 is almost needless filler and could have been maybe 10 chapters at the start of 7, but like… 1 is the WORST one you could choose if you were choosing solely on quality

I may be blinded by nostalgia and I was also like 12 last time I read them, but I feel like 1 was a good intro to the world and our characters. Quirrel was a alright villain, a good setup for both Voldemort, hogwarts scary hidden shit, and the whole high turnover rate of defense against the dark arts professors

The lore was there, but the actual way they implemented it was so scattered that you wouldn’t fully appreciate it until like the 7th book. The lore of the series was great… if they had actually introduced it in a way that didn’t seem like Rowling intentionally left herself room to work with when she had no clue what to do

Genuinely besides her being a terf the books just kinda suck. The worldbuilding was lacking, the lore was amazing, but she didn’t do much with it and ur right. Also I’m still thinking about how brit focused it is. Like most of America has one school?? In WESTERN MASSACHUSSETTS???

My guess is that Ilvermorny came about very early on in US history, and there are also some very large portions of the world with only one school (I think lore wise Africa has like 3 tops?). I think it has to do with the magical population in a given area. It’s also feasible that in rural areas or less developed countries, the magic using population is less. Pure bloods in England show a lot of issues and MACUSA clearly legislates against intermarrying, so I imagine the same is there, worse

Another thought is that the USA was around for a very short time as independent of Britain, before the spiritualism movements, where magic was a lot more acceptable. And in African, Native American, and more rural Asian communities, spiritualism is far more well-received. They wouldn’t necessarily be “odd” enough to single out. Plus home schooling could be a bigger thing in the US as it is with the nomages

I genuinely love how much you’ve thought about this. I feel like you’ve thought more than Rowling did 😭

Well, these are more intuitive, like I came up with this on the fly.

My issue is that I feel like hogwarts is this secluded place with a train just for them. Mt greylock is super close from north Adams, a medium/small (city?) and 40ish probably to Albany, the ny capital. And a major freight train line runs right around there

And greylock isn’t even a rlly cool mountain. If anything it should be in the white mountains of new Hampshire. Or the area of Maine where almost nobody lives

Where llivermony is in cannon is blue, where I think it should be is red. See now where it is has a medium population density?? And even in the 1800’s there were people around greylock and the north Adam’s area because they were working the rails. The hooosac tunnel was being worked on for 25 years in the mid 1800’s

I can’t remember for sure but I think Hogwarts is disguised as a landfill, far enough out of the way that that you wouldn’t go just for fun and you’d see it just as a landfill if you did go there. And the train is probably disguised the same as everything else. The wizarding world also makes EVERYTHING massive and Willy Wonka like. The Weasleys are broke but the Barrow is the size of a skyscraper. The Lovegoods live in a giant windmill. They’d probably have mini trains to get to the bathroom.
