physical endurance doesn’t equate to ability to serve in office and to suggest it does is outright ableist I hate to say it. even smth as “common” as asthma can make it impossible for someone to do this, even in a chair

Senator Tammy Duckworth lost both of her legs while serving her country. She uses a wheelchair. By this standard she wouldn’t be able to be a senator.

we’re not gonna sit here and act like plus size people aren’t capable of doing basic tasks

Girl don’t try to turn this around on me 😭😭 that’s a weird ass thing to say and lowkey also ableist as fuck. I’d worry more about the age of some of these government officials not whether or not they can jog across a gym

why are we electing people too old to jog? literally rolling the wheelchair back and forth is a fucking workout in itself. government offices should be held to a higher standard of mental and physical health

Like why are we normalizing ableist language. Just bc usain bolt is fast asf or john cena is strong asf doesn’t mean I want them anywhere near my government like ???? Stupid logic 😭😭

I do agree that something needs to be done about all the old people in government positions who very clearly do not have the capacity to do their jobs anymore. But this solution isn’t the right one.

“Mental”, yes, if mental means people who actually represent the people instead of their own chequebooks. Physical? That’s just the abliest shit creeping through. Disabled people are just as capable of representing and doing good.

I think this is OP’s point though. Legislators are regulating things like health and ability in ways that make them look like enormous hypocrites
