when I first met my (cis straight male) professor, he said he “didn’t really get all that trans stuff.” now he’s publishing articles in his home country decrying the attacks on trans rights and mocking the arguments of famous transphobes there 🥺

lack of understanding does NOT equal bigotry!!! we as a collective MUST recognize this because it IS OUR DUTY to foster understanding!!! it is THE ONLY WAY we win allyship and rights!!!

i find it so irritating when queer people especially from the us complain about the social understanding of another country when the basic needs of life in another countries is barely met. but ofc let’s let poor know your a man cause your on T 🙄

absolutely! to clarify I always knew he wasn’t a bigot (he’s a very “live and let live” and “it’s none of my business what people do” kinda guy) but the growth from someone who didn’t really understand to putting his name on bylines in a repressive country to defend others’ rights really warmed my heart

this is…not applicable. my family immigrated from the same country he did, I’m very aware of the situation there. it’s a repressive country, but not a poor one. it has a lower poverty rate than the US. and I’m not trans myself, so it didn’t come up bc I just randomly told the poor man I’m on T…
