Because people didn’t want to hate themselves?

i feel like you’re mixing up fear of being discriminated against with self hatred. those are two very different things.

so was there any hardship in queer individuals and community between “i’m choosing not to hate myself for having these feelings” and “the i’m choosing part of it isn’t acceptable because i have these feelings”

Because we know we aren’t crazy. We love like everyone else. Imagine a world where it was illegal for EVERYONE to be in relationships and romantically love each other. That would be such a sad world… Now imagine how queer folks have been feeling this whole time while being told their love is illegal and “of the devil”.

You had me up until that second part, I’m not understanding what you’re trying to say. Are you asking if people have had issues accepting themselves? Because then yeah, that’s pretty common.

respectfully, i mean what i just said lol. fear ≠ shame. do people stay closeted out of shame? yes. do people stay closeted out of fear? also yes. two things can be true at once.
