serious question, please, im not trying to be rude or anything, but why can trans men be called lesbians? doesn’t lesbian mean wlw, and by saying a trans man’s a lesbian it’s like a saying a vegan can be called a meat-eater because they used to eat meat?

I found out when people say look at our queer history our history was extremely transphobic and trans men back then were not seen as men, and thats why it was a said thing. We can criticize our history and realize that it indeed was invalidating because those men were seen as women

“doesn’t that discredit both the trans and lesbian community?” yes. i was in the lesbian community for about 8 years before i came out and started testosterone. i was heavily immersed in wlw culture and it was part of my identity. calling myself a man and claiming to be a lesbian invalidates my wlw friends because i am invading their space. these ppl are my best friends, but i am not a lesbian. people who claim trans MEN can be lesbians just see them as women lite, thats as simple as it is.

doesn’t that discredit both the trans and lesbian community? and to a trans man’s wouldn’t that be self-invalidating?

like doesn’t it defeat the purpose of the man’s identity and him transitioning, and saying that trans men aren’t men? like lesbian means “women/non-men loving women/non-men” and as a trans man, aren’t you now a man, meaning that if you’re calling yourself a lesbian, you’re saying you’re still a woman. can they not be straight?

i’m really not trying to be rude i’m just really confused. i see a lot of replies about history of trans men being in women’s spaces a lot but the reason they were allowed is because back then, people didn’t see trans men as men, so i don’t get that argument as well

While I fully see where some trans men are coming from, I don’t think from a personal standpoint I can understand it and won’t be able to validate it, at the end of the day im not that person and don’t care

I also find it common that a lot of older queer people use it who were in lesbian relationships and found out they were trans later in life and just still experience their love in a queer way. Will I ever fully understand it? No, but its also such a small percentage and we are all queer and got other things to worry bout
