do ppl who try to bash pride month with male suicide statistics not realize that there are men in the lgbtq+ community? + they only publicize how much they care about it when it can be used to belittle others. it’s both bigotry AND performative activism

My thing is that I think men’s mental health is important. In a patriarchal society men aren’t supposed to show emotion, aren’t supposed to cry. Any pain or suicidality is seen as weakness. Men have very high suicide rate and many use methods that leave no room for survival. But the issue is that those people talking about it now DONT GIVE A SHIT ANY OTHER TIME!!! They don’t even gaf NOW!!! They just hate gay people

I honestly wish they weren’t in the same month because they are both so important and pride does overshadow men’s mental health month. Btw that is NOT me saying that pride isn’t as important, historically it is more important that pride take place in June

June is pride month, Juneteenth, national safety month, Father’s Day and so on June is a very important month do not belittle other people for what they celebrate and if someone’s fucking with you don’t let it slide

Exactly, men’s mental health needs to be addressed but 99% of the time men bring it up is just to deflect from pride month, completely ignoring the queer men who really need more support

THIS! It’s so ironic how the numbers they bring up include people that are apart of the same community that they neglect so much. Men’s mental health is important and needs to be addressed, but you can’t pick and choose when to care. Plus, it’ll be the same mfs who would bully a man for defying traditional western social norms that all of a sudden express concern about toxic masculinity and mental health. brother, YOU are the problem!

plus, like you allude to- a lot of harm stems from the fact we live in a patriarchy society. like dismantling cishetero norms helps everyone’s mental health- men too ! both queer and not
