I feel like I have to add; I think Amaya is a great person. She seems like she would be a great friend to many (although I feel she would probably eventually annoy me). It's just weird to see her act so childlike in front of men that she's with. Because at that rate... do the men like that she's so youthful acting?
I think this is one of the reasons a lot of bilingual people jump to protect her, cause I get that we all operate a certain way when u grow up in the states, but someone having a different way of expressing themselves doesn’t mean juvenile unless u have a very small minded way of looking at ppl. I totally get the energy being overbearing & not everyone’s cup of tea but I also don’t agree w adding to stereotypes that bilingual ppl are stupid or naive for speaking differently than others.
Everyone is infantilizing her. Everyone is talking about how "cute" and "adorable" she is. Most of the words that come out of her mouth, especially her "silly" little metaphors don't seem like something an adult would say. Even if she is neurodivergent, this has nothing to do with it
Im pretty sure she said that English isn’t her first language and that’s why she relies on the filler words to break the language barrier + she’s Dominican from NYC, it’s very easy to only be surrounded by Spanglish speakers and even ppl who don’t speak English at all, the way she speaks English is like directly translated Spanish- she also seems like she has a pronunciation impairment.. she’s articulate when she’s serious so who gaf
I’m also neurodivergent and have a degree in psych she did not use a baby voice that I can remember at all but her voice was very altered due to the humidity. I visited Fiji from dry ass desert Utah and my voice sounded a lot different. I’m not attacking anyone simply saying she doesn’t purposely act like a child she’s an adult and a smart one her behaviors just align with neurodivergent traits
