He probably read that word but never heard it spoken out loud so he just assumed that was the pronunciation. It’s a common occurrence actually.

I had a teacher that thought it was pronounced epi-tome. People can mispronounce things they’ve only read. Honestly him mispronouncing epitome is better than him not even knowing the word
