Not excusing her, but most ppl I know did not know what that word was or that it was a slur. The only time in my life I’ve ever heard it said was a Ricegum parody rap in 2017. I wouldn’t be surprised (esp going to U of Arizona) if she didn’t actually understand what that word meant. Also considering that when she posted it, someone DM’d her about it being bad and she deleted it. If it was malicious, she wouldn’t have deleted it

Not downplaying its severity, I literally said I don’t think she was aware of the weight of the word. However, given that she corrected it (by deleting it when someone brought it to her attention) we can’t say with certainty that she used the word intentionally and maliciously.

she definitely knew that the slur was used to refer to east asians, given the context she used it in. whether or not she knew the word was a slur, she certainly knew it was offensive in that it’s racially-targeted, and she used it to describe a feature of herself she doesn’t like… critical thinking says she knew its connotation and still used it. slur or not, i’d never hop online complaining about how my features resemble that of another race, so i want to change them. that would be so damn odd.

Knowing that something is a slur would constitute knowing that it’s offensive. so your second sentence there doesn’t really connect

Don’t get me wrong I agree that it was an insanely crazy thing to say and she should be educated. But hear this out: (too long for a comment)

Agree 100%! We do not know her intentions because she hasn’t commented on it. All ppl can do is assume. And I ASSUMING that this was not an overt and intentional act of aggression:

the constant trying to explain away her using the word is just coming across as u downplaying racism against asians that's existed for a long ass time. the botox comment is a clear racist remark against a feature most asians have, thus clearly being RACIST and inexplicable. you wouldn't be trying to explain all this if she said the n word would u? no? so why belittle asian racism

what do you mean by this ? she knew the word she was using was highly inappropriate and offensive. offensive words aren’t always slurs, if that’s what you’re trying to say ? have you not seen the DM interaction between her and the person who called her out for using it on her story ? she KNEW she shouldn’t have been using it lol
