Why did everyone hate John Walker? All he did was reach out for guidance on being Captain America , and was REJECTED, and killed a terrorist, who killed his best friend

I think you may have misunderstood like 7 key points in the show - he was never supposed to be captain America. Sam donated the shield (now HIS shield/mantel) to the museum but the gov intervened - he clout-chased (the interview at his HS) - he disrespected Sam/bucky’s experience as heros and Steve’s partners/friends - he took the serum even after talking about it with Lamar/throwing shade at Bucky the whole time - dick to the Dora (“they weren’t even super soldiers” like tf??)

Why does everybody say he killed Lamar, he didn’t

- the guy he killed DIDN’T kill Lamar, but even if he did, it would still have been completely unlawful for him to have done that - he then lies to Lamar’s family so he doesn’t have to do something hard - doesn’t listen to reason with Sam/bucky - doesn’t take responsibility for his actions (“you made me”) - even after being fired, he STILL tries to be Captain America, which puts him at risk of going to jail forever (the brig) and where would that leave his wife? Well, I agree with most of your points, but he didn’t clout chase, that’s just part of the job. The Star Spangled Man with a Plan or whatever, John says in the show that he didn’t like doing the press stuff. He shows some heart at the end of the show, and in Thunderbolts

Specifically when he’s talking about how he feels so close to Steve Rogers and like he knew him because he studied his missions or whatever. That’s 100% clout chasing, he has no connections to the original captain America whatsoever

I do agree tho that he becomes much more likable in Thunderbolts*, but he doesn’t make it easy. He still lies and is arrogant. It’s clear the qualities the serum amplified in him weren’t great ones but he’s trying just like the rest of the team
