I’m finally catching up with the broad strokes of the Lindsay Clancy trial, and I’m very confused why people are being so aggressive towards her. She BEGGED for help. She openly stated that she is having thoughts of harming her children.

When having psychotic episodes that you are open about, they need to be treated seriously. Why wasn’t she being closely observed or even left alone with her children after that? If I began slipping like that postpartum I pray that someone would take me away from my children. You cannot blame someone in psychosis for not being tied to reality. That’s literally the problem with psychosis. She asked for help multiple times and it wasn’t given. It was actually made worse by her providers.

She literally outright stated that she was having delusions of harming her children multiple times before the murder. Why wasn’t that enough to separate her from her kids?

Mental health care in our country is absolute garbage. Hospitals don’t actually help patients, often making people worse. I went into a hospital begging for help and got discharged for being “stabilized” after I said I was significantly worse and more of a danger to myself. They still discharged me and I ended up in a different hospital the next day due to acting on the thoughts I had expressed concern over.

The media plays a hand in all the aggressive opinions about her case. They are partly to blame for why we can’t have nuanced discussions around mental health in this country

I hope this trial can help people see how bad mental health care has become. But I fear it is causing more stigmatization of mental illnesses. The amount of people who don’t understand that mental illness affects peoples thoughts and behaviors actually pisses me off. I get angry watching some of the news stories about it because it’s clear that some people who don’t experience it will never try to understand it

Like yes, what happened was awful and horrible, no one is denying that. I just want this trial to end up showing people how our healthcare system is not set up to actually help patients who need it or you have to jump through so many hoops for treatment so it becomes inaccessible to many. I really hate our country’s healthcare system
