anyone else with BPD/ Bipolar have hyper empathy? I’ve read it’s supposed to be the opposite but my empathy for everything (literally inanimate objects too) is suffocating sometimes. it’s like I have an abundance of love in my heart with nowhere to go

I bent a spoon trying to scoop ice cream that was too frozen and I started crying and apologized to the spoon because I thought “I just broke its back trying to give it a sweet treat”

oh that’s pretty common with BPD!! hyper empathy and a kind of “empathy deficiency”—some people deal with both of em in varying capacities. but I can 100% confirm from my personal relationships that a ton of people with BPD are overwhelmingly empathetic

Yes very much so yes. I can FEEL what other people go through in my body. My body has this really annoying VR experience capability so I can experience pain of someone else in my head, imagining it, feeling it, and sometimes it’s so bad I have accidentally took on trauma that never even happened to me. I hate it mainly because I can’t ever tell people that because they get mad like “you don’t know what it’s like”….but I kinda do 😔

As someone with bd, when I’m in manic episodes I sometimes become over empathetic or sensitive to things that happen to people and objects around me

I know that can mean experiencing extra emotional pain unfortunately but it’s also a major strength in some respects. I think a lot of people are intensely grateful for the compassion their friends with BPD show them
