is it a bad idea to seek out diagnosis/meds in the US right now? i haven’t been able to keep track of the news well and im nervous with RFK in office

i think general mental health care is fine right now. it’s mostly vaccines that they’re targeting atm

Depends, if it’s autism or something that would need an SSRI you might be in trouble.

oh yikes; if i was looking to get re-prescribed something without any new diagnosis, do you think that would be safe or is taking any SSRI risky enough?

SSRI isn’t like dangerous, you just might not be able to afford them

If you think a diagnosis will give you access to meds, accommodations, resources, or therapies that will notably improve your life, I recommend getting diagnosed. There are a lot if uncertainties in this country right now, but as a mental health professional in an inpatient unit it is better to have a diagnosis and resources now rather than avoiding them and reaching the point of a crisis and having to build up from there.
