so i’m in college and living in my own apartment for the first time. i’ve been really lonely and wanting to adopt a cat so i don’t feel so lonely. i was kinda hoping to make it an esa but now people are saying i shouldn’t but i really think it would help😞

If it helps it help. That’s what an ESA is for! I say if you can afford it, go for it

Can I propose something like a hamster, pair of guinea pigs, or a couple of gerbils? Less commitment, not going to be on the receiving end of surprise $5,000+ vet bills, and easier to keep in an apartment. I esp love guinea pigs Make sure you do your research! They need a LOT larger enclosures than most people believe. Still cheaper than a cat tho

The process of getting a pet certified as ESA has gotten VERY DIFFICULT. people abused it so much it has become a nightmare. That being said, most apartments allow cats.

Do it! Cats are easy to care for! The only problem is not a lot of apartments are pet friendly and if you do find one you may have to pay extra rent for your cat. You do need money to care for them so there’s that you should consider too.

A snake might be a wonderful low maintenance choice if that’s your thing
