2/2 from my mom) my mom said she stopped but she’s still going through a crisis. She doesn’t think a therapist is going to help and she thinks “something is wrong with her”. I genuinely don’t know what to do to help her and it is killing me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

SH is an addiction. It functions like an addition, like most extremely harmful coping mechanisms do (drugs, alcohol, eating disorders). So treat it as such. Getting clean from SH requires a lot of programming and steps and support. This includes therapy, harm-reduction (swapping for something less harmful though still not ideal), a LOT of discipline and willpower on her part, finding new coping mechanisms, etc

Look into lil ouchies, they're pain stimulating gadgets and toys that don't actually harm you. The whole rubber band on the wrist to snap thing works. Drawing on her skin with a pen works. Getting super into the gym/fitness world bc that's literally just healthy self harm And when she has a REAL BAD urge? She gets a piercing or tattoo.

DM me with any questions or anything. I'm 6 years clean from cutting, 1.5 years clean off alcohol, and recovered from eating disorders so I've seen a thing or two lol
