If you craft coarse dirt, turn it into a path block, and then break it, you can double the amount of dirt you have. (You can get infinite gravel from piglin bartering.)

sometimes i craft a shovel to find a spot and harvest dirt or sand til it breaks so i have enough of either when i need it

I get dirt from digging, creeper explosions, terraforming, mining, and other forms of acquiring it

if you find an area that you wanna terraform for a future build you can do it there or you can just pick a hill. if you’re worried about appearance you can always find a spot underground
