I suppose this sounds somewhat condescending if you’re serious, so I guess I’ll explain. The cost is decided by all the enchantments present in what you’re combining, not the actual result. the price also increases for every time the item has been combined with something else, using the higher one. so combining enchantments individually onto one book and then the boots is pretty much the only way you ever run out of cost

So adding them to the boots individually is the more efficient way to do it? That’s very useful to know.

You have to combine them just as many times, but it gets rid of the unnecessary enchantments as you go along, so they don’t add to the cost as you go along.

That means it would also cost way more if you combined a bunch of level 1 books into the high level enchantment, as opposed to getting it naturally all at once!

yes and yes however it also costs less if you combine like it’s a tournament bracket or something, instead of one by one, because then each thing only gets combined a couple of times instead of the boots getting combined with every single time

I think matching books to increase their level are a special case in some way? but I don’t remember exactly how, I don’t think it just didn’t count as a combination
