Nahh Turner was DEFINITELY not better than Schwarber. Like not even close. Sanchez and Wheeler maybe, but pitchers need to have one of the greatest seasons ever to win MVP because it’s so frequently seen as the position players’ version of the Cy Young. That’s why it’s so rare. Schwarber singlehandedly won probably 10+ games for the Phillies this year and was easily the most impactful player on the team. Ohtani still deserved the win over him though
WAR is a bs stat. It’s completely subjective and meaningless. And your graphic only proves my point further. Aside from baserunning, the only batting stats that Trea is better than Schwarber in is just getting hits. Schwarber is better at like everything else, plus he’s WAY better in high leverage situations. Schwarber’s offensive production fully makes up for his lack of defense, and then some. Trea had a great year, but it’s really no comparison between the two of them.
I don’t think you understand how much more valuable a + defensive shortstop is compared to a DH. Also, “WAR is stupid” with no actual reasoning or evidence for why it’s a bad stat isn’t an argument lmao, you can’t just say a stay is bad because it disagrees with you. Schwarber literally just hits bombs and gets on base. Schwarber hits for average, gets on base, solid power, and with elite speed and great defense. Turner was better.
I said WAR is bad because that wasn’t my main point. It’s a bad stat because it’s completely subjective in the way it’s allocated. It’s not based on any real facts or algorithms like other stats. It’s solely based on how a certain sites views a particular player. Schwarber was far more impactful to the team in every way offensively except for like the number of hits, and he’s a very smart baserunner. But we can agree to disagree
