New to baseball, what’s the logic behind signing a 29 year old to a 15 year contract? From what I’ve seen baseball careers don’t necessarily stretch much longer than like careers for quarterbacks

stretching out the years is a way to still guarantee a lot of money while not paying as much year to year. you’re really paying for their peak years while acknowledging their older years aren’t gonna be so good. often teams front load the contracts so you pay more in the good years and less in the not as productive years
