The brilliance of David Lynch comes from his unflinching ability to represent evil authentically as evil. I’d only be concerned if your boyfriend is cheering for BOB. Otherwise it’s a green flag for me

I guess it is interesting how many Lynch movies (and there aren't that many) have the murder, abuse, or psychological dissolution of a woman as a central plot point. I mean I don't think Lynch revels in violence the way some popular directors do.. I think his films and show are engrossing because of their convoluted plots, air of mystery, mindfuck symbolism, incredible cinematography and attention to detail, all of that. Um. American culture is too violent in general. But idk i agre w green flag

For me, when it comes to something like Blue Velvet or FWWM, yeah they can be mean films, but like, the world is mean. It’s like they’re entirely dishonest portrayals of what happens in the real world, terrible things are happening all around us all the time. Not to say that you can’t still have a discussion as to why he likes his movies, if there is cause for concern

If there is some fear that watching these things means he wants to do them or might get the idea to do them or that watching such things is bad juju in general maybe those fears and beliefs come from someplace else.

"freaking" is absolutely insane work but yeah I'd say it's wrong of you. as #1 said very well, while Lynch's work frequently deals in evil, it has an extremely strong sense of right and wrong and in my opinion shows a belief in the power of love and humanity.
