The odyssey is genuinely overhyped. Yes, cinematically it was absolutely brilliant, but the script and dialogue was actual šŸ’©. Crazy to me that more people aren’t saying this

I don’t think the script and dialogue was garbage. Little choppy at times but it was okay overall

Unfortunately the people who like it have never read it. And they like it because Nolan made it; not because it was well made. I’ve read it multiple times…the movie is inaccurate, poorly executed, shallow, and hideous to look at.

People are going to dogpile on me, but most people haven’t actually consumed the Odyssey. People who actually did are talking mad shit about this movie, aka the translator and the wider literary community.

How is the movie inaccurate to the book lmao, also ā€œhideous to look atā€ when it’s consistently selling out imax showings for two months past its original release like can you at least try to legitimately criticize the movie man

I wasn’t talking about the quality of the camera. I was talking about costumes, casting, etc.

It’s very inaccurate to the book, that’s why so many readers are criticizing it.

I have read it, and the adaptation is not as bad as some people would have you believe. Obviously it’s a little shallower and there’s less detail, that’s what naturally happens when you adapt something written to the screen. Odysseus was not super well characterized, he was a little too likeable. But other than those gripes, it wasn’t horrendous.

Casting.. imma assume you’re not one of the weirdos mad about POC and trans people being in this but even without that I still don’t get that complaint Also I haven’t seen anything the movie changed as deterring from the intention of the original story (i can’t take another ā€œmy name is Nobodyā€ removal complaint omg)

That’s the thing tho. I haven’t seen many great movies where the dialogue was choppy/ rushed. The first 20 mins of that movie was abysmal in terms of dialogue/ story building. It got better but I don’t see how more people don’t think this is an integral component of a good movie šŸ˜‚
