A lot of movie opinions and discourse is heavily rooted in misogyny. Because why the fuck did I just see someone say “Interstellar is better than Project Hail Mary because Interstellar is more manly” WHAT? “Girls like PHM more because of Rocky” HELLO???

This is a miss ngl, the women in interstellar where way more vital to the story and plot than PHM.

I don’t get the example? Is Bradley Cooper more manly than Gosling? Sure, I guess. But the characters were fundamentally different. It’s also part of the plot that gosling wasn’t the ‘right choice’ or first choice’ but he didn’t puss out and saved humanity…. Equally as manly imo.

I’ve heard ppl hate on the hunger games bc they don’t get why Katniss is so special. They just be hating female leads 😭

ik it's the phrasing of 'manly' vs not manly that is the issue but valid criticism worded ignorantly

…honestly I totally get that. I guess I personally preferred PHM because of the sap, too??? But yeah it’s the ignorant phrasing that grinds me gears

It’s not the importance of women in the films. It’s the way men talk about the movies LOL.

Who cares then, there is always going to be racists, sexists, etc. the more you give those people a platform the more they spread their ideas. So ignore them and praise the women instead of giving attention to the people spreading hate

As if interstellar isn’t sappy lmao. And regardless of that, sappiness isn’t a gendered thing, or at least it’s not if you’re not obsessed with gender roles.

I don’t think it has to do with her being a female lead cuz her being sort of overly special in the hunger games still feels a bit not fleshed out even if she was a man. Her character seems kinda shoehorned in to being the leader of a revolution which kinda works with the theme of revolutions not being comprised of professional tacticians, but the everyday people, but it doesn’t feel too tapped into thematically to not feel disjointed

Like she accidentally kinda made her way to the top of this revolution through kinda desperate actions like the nightlock berries thing but was blown up into acts of rebellion which elevated her to the front of this revolution. She even seems used in mockingjay by colin and the rebels like a tool or mercenary like the guy from bioshock or mascot

I feel like its not really about her strategy or use of what she already knows which has potential for that theme of revolutions led by the people but the plot kinda bases her importance on her image and how it brings people together. Even her role as like an underdog constantly second guesses herself as she delves something bigger than herself could’ve been used more to empower if she was treated like that or seen like that by the world around her but shes treated more like a political payload

I’m kinda rambling but I’m glad someone brought this up cuz I feel like katniss’s narrative is very similar to that of arthur in the joker movie where someone accidentally becomes a pawn or the face in a revolution but I feel like joker only pulls this off slightly better cuz the context where we know joker is already important cuz if that wasn’t there, his character would feel more ridiculous or we know that gotham is already chaotic and just looking for an excuse to explode

“Who cares” okay but if we never talk about this problem nothing will change. This is one of the reasons there’s misogyny in Hollywood

Also, neither film portrays women poorly. The top lady in PHM was a very complex character and she represented her gender well. Hell she represented humanity well.
