The biggest complaint I’ve seen about Superman is there is no background to any of the characters…it’s fucking Superman. He’s existed since the 30s…what more background do you fucking need

Gunn’s known for putting lesser known characters in his projects as an Easter egg for comic book fans (GI Robot, Polka Dot Man, Howard the Duck, etc) but each character is fairly easy to find via Google if someone was interested in finding out more information about them.

There is no need for another Superman origin story, we have seen it one too many times

Also the other characters all just play their role in the story without really needing much explanation, with the exception of maybe Hawkgirl, as a Hawkgirl fan I felt like she got snubbed a little but the movie IS called Superman and not Hawkgirl. Absolutely loved Guy and Mr. Terrific though.

It was good, I just didn’t like how the movie seemed to throwing you into the story with no context to what happened in the first minute. Why did summer crash in the artic? Who was he fighting? Why does the nanobot girl hate him so much, we were given no backstory on her.

True but guy garner is gonna be in th later series, Mr terrific is getting his own show and they are definitely gonna do more stuff with hawkgirl. Even jimmy Olson is ingesting a show

Well each character has shown up in a previous animated series in one way or another and most are available on HBO Max so it’s not that hard to find material on them if you’re interested.

Gunn’s crew has also been fairly transparent about what specific comic/animated series is the inspiration for their movies so I’d imagine they’d do the same for their shows so you can always use that as a guideline.

Yeah I’m glad they decided to skip the Krypton scene, everyone knows what happens there

I feel like she will get her own movie at some point. She’s super important to DC. Also with the success of Superman they are about to green light so much stuff

She’s a henchman dude, also do you NEED another origin story movie for the guy with on of the most famous origin stories in fiction?

also they give you the background in the text at the beginning with the whole opening text thing, the movie definitely establishes what’s going on

It said on screen he just lost his first battle to the hammer of boravia(?), assumedly he crashes near his hideout because he just used enough energy to make sure he lands there and then lets himself rest

yeah, like, he crashed in the arctic to go to the Fortress of Solitude, I thought we all knew about the Fortress of Solitude going into the movie

Oh, I didn’t see anything on the screen about losing a battle. I must’ve missed it. I walked into the theatre the second the movie started playing cause I was running late cause the theatre’s tablets to get tickets (cause everything there is digital now) never work. I get the girl’s a henchmen but to me it seemed like she has some reason to really hate Superman, I think she cursed him out in Spanish a few times idk

I knew he was going to the fortress of solitude, I just didn’t understand why he had injured in the first place

Yeah, it starts with text that explains the background on what’s going on with Superman and the world at large, like it explains how 300 years ago the first Metahumans showed up, how Superman started working 3 years ago, and how he had just lost a battle 3 minutes before the landing in the antarctic
