I think some nuance is being lost on both sides of the Obsession discourse. Unlikeable protagonists are a staple of horror and the whole point is to make the viewer uncomfortable for putting themselves in their shoes
It doesn't mean the movie endorses Bear's actions or that he's actually a good guy whatsoever. Some illusion of ambiguity is needed in order to add to the uncomfortable effect and to show how awful situations like this can arise from people who may not SEEM awful at first glance.

This! People say they want original and meaningful movies but then forget that you actually have to let yourself feel human emotions to experience them

The fact that people seriously still think that all movies support their protagonists actions baffles me. Same crowd who tried to argue that Marty Supreme was a bad film because it had a morally questionable protagonist last year. Sign of alow iq for real.

The discomfort with bear for me comes from being able to relate to his circumstances (likes someone who doesn’t feel the same, maybe doesn’t have a lot of friends, sad about cat dying) but then cringing at what he does about it next.

I think it's becoming an ever more prevalent life situation. The way society and culture makes us judge ourselves by counting stats is fucking sick.
