I feel like people who make those posts have this weird insecurity about what films they’ve watched/haven’t watched, and are taking it out on others, instead of using the numerous freemium services that have easy access to classic movies.

oh absolutely. there’s a part of them that feels insecure about what they watch (or what they don’t), but instead of putting in effort to leave their bubbles and challenge themselves, they’d rather demonize people who do to make them feel embarrassed and/or to discourage others from challenging themselves too.
