the odyssey is gonna be a classic. 8.5/10. i LOVED the cyclops, how we didnt hear the sirens,& circe but some of the dialogue was a bit clunky & travis scott being in there at the beginning kinda took me out of the movie 💀 like why was he there

I’m still mad they removed/changed one of my favorite scenes from the book. The “nobody” part with the cyclops was great and it took me a while to get back into the movie when we didn’t have that in the movie.

Its either a classic or a 8/10, cant be both. Weird number to give a classic

Disagree but opinions i guess. A classic should be pretty much flawless, yea sure it can have minor nitpicking things like not 100% historical accuracy, or maybe criticism with running time, etc. but if something is an 8 or 8.5 whatever then its more than a little off from classic status.

In the Odyssey book 9 Odysseus calls himself “Nobody” to the Cyclops Polyphemus and there’s more than one too, culminating in the line “Nobody is killing me” as he tries to call the others for help. They also didn’t know the cyclops was Poseidon’s son till later. Also he wasn’t gifted the bag of winds, another favorite scene and a great betrayal/example of hubris by the crew. I liked the movie but I’m critical of some of the artistic decisions and it wasn’t quite what I thought it would be.

And both “Nobody” and the bag of winds way predated Percy Jackson. The Odyssey is a great story even if you find an abridged version because you’re not interested in reading 500 word book, I still recommend checking it out. There is a lot more cheating on Odysseus’s part than Nolan suggested though so be prepared for that.

If you really don’t want to read it at all I think the 1997 sticks closer to Homer’s story. You’ll see a lot of monsters that are referenced in the Percy Jackson books/movies/tv show.
