So this trilogy came out during the Bat Embargo era. The Bat Embargo was an internal policy at Warner Bros that limited what characters could appear in simultaneous projects to “avoid audience confusion”. It’s why Robin couldn’t be in The Batman cartoon until after Teen Titans was canceled and conversely was the reason why Batman couldn’t be mentioned by name in the Teen Titans. Villains like Joker and Catwoman were exceptions and is widely believed to be the reason the Embargo was lifted

Was there also a limit on good batman suits?

No that was because of the trend of having heavily armored dark “realistic” super suits in live action comic media. Don’t get me wrong we got some banger suits out of it but a lot of the time they either ended up looking terrible or not embodying the character at all.

Mainly the issue was designers would remove often iconic parts of suit designs because they “looked stupid” (think Superman’s red trunks, Batman’s yellow utility belt, etc)

Part of Marvel‘s problem now is that they don’t have as strong of legacy characters as DC does so they’re losing fan interest as the original heroes’ actors start to slowly retire their roles.

Marvel’s big issue is that they built their brand around huge epic crossovers, slowly building to a crescendo of high stakes finales. It was pretty clear they intended on doing a Kang the Conqueror/multiverse style movie in the same vein as Endgame, except likely bringing back beloved pre-MCU legacy characters such as the Fox X-Men characters and Tobey Maguire Spider-Man character. Except then Jonathan Majors happened and they lost the plot (arguably they lost it beforehand). So now Secret Wars

And Doomsday are basically being set up like a YEAR in advance of the release of those movies instead of the clear set up 5 years in advance of Infinity War/Endgame.

In addition to that. Marvel stopped focusing on fun. They basically speedran 60 years of comic-book power creep in 15 years to the point where every movie is at the very least an ‘Avengers level threat.’ Like idgaf about your silly skybeam, give me a battle with personal stakes like Iron Man 1 or Black Panther.

I’d say the slow build to a finale is what I love about their movies but they’ve lost that while dc is building on it at the moment but after watching wonder man I hope they stay on this track of releasing their blockbuster avenger or main line superhero movie but still have these fun side projects like werewolf by night the guardians Christmas special these are the thing that keep me entertained

Idk I think marvel and dc are moving to a nice creative future im very optimistic as of now everything just feels a bit more in creative hands and im just happy to see some more stories that actually feel like their jumping our a panel or out of a think piece novel it’s very cool and their both getting raver i just hope to see that continue

I think the over all quality of Marvel movies recently, as compared to like 5 years ago, has drastically improved. (Even then we had like Guardians 3 and Spiderman 3 which were pretty good). The issue is that Marvel is a convoluted and disjointed mess at this point. It used to be fairly straightforward; each movie built up towards Endgame but realistically you probably only had to watch the Avengers movies (plus Cap 3 but that movie was basically an Avengers movie) and you could figure out what

Was going on. In contrast I have no idea what the hell Doomsday and Secret Wars are going to be about (which is ironic because I love the Secret Wars comic run). Idk Doom’s deal, idk what everything is building up to. Apart from RDJ’s dramatic return announcement, I wouldn’t have even known that Dr. Doom was coming back until F4 this year. The DCU isn’t going to be much better imo. The reintroduction of Peacemaker from the DCEU kinda throws a wrench in it’s continuity, and I felt like Superman

Wasn’t a very good starting movie. I’ve said this on a different post but it felt like a mid-phase 2 Marvel movie in tone and structure. Like Ant-Man or Thor the Dark World. Not necessarily as an indication of quality, but as a ‘there’s no origin story for the character, we’re kinda tossing you straight in with as concise exposition as possible.’ Which I feel like doesn’t work as well for the PLANNED START of a cinematic universe.
