What’s going on with Backrooms is the same thing that happened with Slenderman. Both are internet stories that went super viral and thus gained hundreds of variations. It was always gonna be impossible for the studio to pick a lore that would satisfy everyone.

i really liked it too!! i knew there was no way for everyone to be happy with the final product but i think kane parsons did a great job. it’s not supposed to be scary like the conjuring — it’s supposed to be a slower build-up, thrilling and psychologically dreadful. to me, the movie is exactly what i imagine the backrooms would be like based off the classic pictures i grew up seeing online.

i also wonder if people missed the announcement that it was going to be shot partially in a found footage type of style? because if you’re not expecting that it can be kind of unsatisfying i suppose

That’s a possibility but at the same time a lot of the videos on YouTube about the backrooms are either in found footage or documentary format. It makes sense that the movie would follow a similar style
